NICK KARTIER

WHERE ARE YOU FROM? AND HOW DID YOUR ENVIRONMENT SHAPE YOUR CREATIVE PROCESS?

So I was born in the Bronx and uh, I lived there till I was in middle school and during middle school, me and my family, we moved down to Miami. And this is pretty much where I’ve been living ever since. Honestly, I feel like, yeah, I had influences where I’m from, but I feel like more than anything, the internet, you know what I’m saying, like really defined and created the way I create music and create art, you know what I’m saying? I grew up on ASAP Rocky, Speaker Knockers. So like I was looking up to those guys, even though they’re not, you know what I’m saying? They’re not from the city that I was living in at the actual moment. I was able to like see the way they work and the things they were doing, you know what I’m saying? And incorporate that into my music.

WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR BIGGEST INFLUENCES AS AN ARTIST?

Well, me personally, I’m the type of person that I’m influenced by all artists. Whether it’s an artist from the 80’s or a 13 year old kid making music in his bedroom right now, like all artists, you know what I’m saying, influenced me. So I can’t really tell you there’s a specific person that influences the music I make, but if I had to choose one person that influences the music I make, I’d probably say Young Thug.

WHAT IS THE STORY BEHIND YOUR SONG “RIP KEED” AND DID THAT HAVE ANY IMPACT ON HOW YOU WENT ABOUT CREATING THE MUSIC VIDEO?

Well before anything, Rest In Peace to Lil Keed. But that song RIP KEED, it came about organically, like pretty much how I make all my music. I don’t really go into creating with like a plan. I kind of let my emotions and the way I feel at the moment kind of define how I’m gonna go about making that song. And as far as the video goes, you know, we shot that video on my trip to L.A. I flew to L.A. with my boy Roly, which is, he pretty much shoots all my videos. We flew out and met up with my boy AGODD who’s the man that engineers all my music. Um, and we were out there to shoot another video with my boy Eli. So we weren’t even supposed to shoot “RIP KEED”. So I told Roly, I was like, yo, just, just shoot, just shoot all weekend. And so that’s where you see us, like in the car, at the airport and even in the party in the Hills. So like there was nothing planned. There was no treatment for the video, everything was just run-and-gun. So I told Roly, just put like pretty much all the best clips together and just throw it together. And that’s how RIP KEED came about.
