Minamisrage has an effortless chill about his approach to his music that makes the average listener feel that he is in full control of his authenticity. The encouragement and early on knack he developed from experimenting with various type beats on YouTube, caused him to take hold of the wheel.

We had a chance to catch up with Minamisrage and this is his
“First Look”

Minamisrage

When did you first start creating music and how has your sound evolved?

I’ve been making music since I was like 12 or 13. I remember I used to listen to music all day, every day. Like that’s all I gave a fuck about so you know what I’m saying?
One day I was just like, damn, like if I had all these beats and like all the equipment and shit. Like I was spaz crazy on this beat or use this cadence of this flow or whatever. And one day I just picked it up and I remember like the first song I ever made was like on this karaoke app. I had this ipad and you can use this karaoke app and you can use youtube through it. And I used to go and type up hella type beats and just like spaz on them. And then like I would send it to all my friends and they’ll be like, oh, shit, this shit is hard as fuck. And then yeah, we just listened to that shit and we were doing that shit for fun.
And over time, you know what I’m saying? I started getting the equipment and getting into beats and shit. Yeah. And then it slowly evolved to what it is now, type of shit.

If you could change one thing about the music industry what would it be?

I probably change how fast it is. Like I feel like music is very come and go right now, you know what I mean? But if people just, you know, took their time with it and really sat with the music, it’d be like much more appreciated in a sense, you know what I’m saying? But yeah, I feel like that’s the one thing I really would change. Just, you know, slow shit down, you know what I mean, take your time, chill, smoke a spliff. You know what I’m saying.

What was your creative process like for your music video “Hold My Wock”?

Shout out to unified atlantic, the motherfucking goat, you know what I mean? Now that video was super organic, like super organic, you know what I’m saying? Usually when it comes to videos I let the videographer do their thing. I don’t really like go too much in on that thing and you know what I mean? Because I feel like they really have their creative ideas and shit that they want to, you know, pull off. And I feel like that’s their lane and that’s what they do best, you know what I mean? So I like them to really go crazy unless it’s like a super personal song or something. I usually just let them do their thing and that’s what that was the whole idea behind it, you know what I mean? And all the ideas he was shooting towards me was pretty much like according to the, you know I mean, the vibe and everything. So it all just worked out and we just went crazy with it, you know what I mean? Running from north side to the west side, like doing that shit all in one day. So it was, it was dope. You feel me.
