Kali

The Georgia based artist and Warner Music Group signee “Kali” releases her latest visual for her single “Area Codes”. In the song Kali gives a detailed layout of her complement of male fans that can’t wait to spoil her once she arrives in their city. In the accompanying visual we see Kali in a high school setting amongst rowdy onlookers as she boasts of her many exploits, and numerous male admirers of all backgrounds representing multiple “Area Codes” that are salivating over her.

The gender-flipped visual pays homage to the legendary Atlanta based artist “Ludacris’ classic that bears the same name. Kali takes the opportunity to use the moment to set an example for other women as she takes control of the narrative and unapologetically claims her feminine power over men. The men are doing the chasing now, as Kali is the focus of all their attention and is in control to pick and choose whomever she wants and whenever she wants.

Unlike the songs previous “Ludacris” iteration. Which was ultimately one of the songs included in the soundtrack for the once popular “RUSH HOUR” movie franchise. Kali’s version seems to be included on the soundtrack for a new era for the women of the culture. An era where women are less likely to be music video vixens. And more likely to be center stage and in full control of their sexual expression and identity. So what “Area Code” represents where you’re from and how long has Kali been on your playlist?
