As Laila lays down the melodic hook with sincere riffs and runs almost like a female version of Brent Faiyaz, we are pulled into a safe space tailored by her eclectic writing style. Laila! emerged onto the scene in 2023. She put out her first song at age 16 which caught fire and was well received by her family and peers. Plus, she is a gifted producer since she started making beats at 14 using GarageBand. Laila’s ear has been graced with some of her favorite childhood musical influences like Brandy, Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston and Aaliyah. Not to mention she comes from a musical family background with her father being hip hop legend Mos Def.
Fast-forward to now, she is building a name for herself and is set to distribute her first official project “Gap Year” in September.
